Terry Fox Foundation
In September 2009, I had to travel to Calgary for the Alberta Mortgage Brokers Association’s annual conference. While there, I had the great pleasure of participating in the annual Terry Fox ‘Marathon of Hope’, running 10 kilometres along the beautiful Bow River in downtown Calgary. I usually participate in Ontario. I don’t know if it was the location (a different province than my own), or the Rocky Mountain air, but I was overcome with emotion that day at the magnitude that one young man named Terry Fox has had worldwide in his quest to find a cure for cancer. I decided that day that I would do more than just participate one day every year; I decided that day to participate in finding a cure for cancer every day of the year.
I am pleased to announce that, beginning in January 2010, I will be donating a portion of my commission earned on every file to the Terry Fox Foundation for cancer research. The Terry Fox Foundation maintains the vision and principles of Terry Fox while raising money for cancer research through the annual Terry Fox Run, Terry Fox Works initiatives, National School Run Day, as well as via memoriam donations and planned gifts. To date, over $400 million has been raised worldwide for cancer research in Terry Fox’s name. The first Terry Fox Run was held in 1981, with the Foundation being created in 1988.
To make a significant impact, I’m enlisting your help. Please continue to refer your friends and family to me for their mortgage financing. The success of this donation is contingent on your ongoing support of my business. To date, we have donated $1950 to the Foundation.
Student Scholarship Program
Each year, $1000 of scholarship money will be awarded to eligible students. The scholarship recognizes students who have demonstrated community involvement, leadership abilities, innovative thinking and academic achievement.
Eligibility:
- Students pursuing post secondary education or other special educational pursuits
- Students must be from families who are mortgage clients of Margo Wynhofen
